Working GroupsArticle 29 Data Protection Working Party
Article 29 Working Party has been established by Article 29 of Directive 95/46/EC. It is independent EU Advisory Body on Data Protection and Privacy. The main tasks of the Working Party are:
- To provide expert opinion from member state level to the Commission on questions of data protection;
- To promote the uniform application of the general principles of the Directive in all member states through co-operation between data protection supervisory authorities;
- To advise the Commission on any Community measures affecting the rights and freedoms of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data and privacy;
- To make recommendations to the public at large, and in particular to Community institutions on matters relating to the protection of persons with regard to the processing of personal data and privacy in the European Community.
International Working Group on Data Protection in Telecommunications (IWGDPT)
The Working Group was founded in the framework of the International Conference of Data Protection and Privacy Commissioners at the initiative of the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection, who has since then been chairing the Group. The Group has adopted numerous recommendations ("Common Positions" and "Working Papers") aimed at improving the protection of privacy in telecommunications. Membership of the Group includes representatives from Data Protection Authorities and other bodies of national public administrations, international organisations and scientists from all over the world. Since the beginning of the 90s the Group has in particular focused on the protection of privacy on the Internet.
Europol JSB
The Europol Joint Supervisory Body is charged with reviewing Europol's activities to ensure that the rights of the individual are not violated by the storage, processing and utilisation of data held by Europol. One way in which the JSB fulfils this general task is by carrying out inspections of Europol.
